Silkscreen
For my silkscreen, I wanted to move away from self portraits and broaden my project further. I began looking at anatomical diagrams of mouths, since my sister is a speech therapist, I had a wide range of sources which I think really helped my project. Since I attended speech and language therapy as a child, I wanted to also use a bright primary colour as my background. I decided on yellow. I then decided to use an open mouth anatomical diagram of an open mouth on top of the yellow background, and repeat it as a wallpaper. I thought that this would be effective as a stutter is bascially a repetition of a sound. I chose to do this wallpaper in the colour purple, as it clashes nicely with the vibrant yellow. I then decided to draw a person sticking out their tongue in a childish matter, with a swirly dotted line running across the tongue. I then drew a large black scissors. This whole image went with the phrase, " Cut along the dotted line". It was suggest to cutting off your own tongue. Sometimes, insecurites can lead to wishing you had never spoken etc, and my speech impediment is a perfect example.
